Taylor Swift Opens Up About Her 'Game of Thrones' Inspired Album

Taylor Swift is just like us. She adopts cats, loves a good breakup anthem, and binges “Game of Thrones.” She’s even just admitted that her 2017 album, “reputation,” was somewhat inspired by the hit show.

In an interview with “Entertainment Weekly,” Swift reveals that a lot of her imagination was dedicated to George R.R. Martin’s storyline, and it began to seep its way into her music. The album explores two different feelings – vengeance and love.

“These songs were half based on what I was going through, but seeing them through a ‘Game of Thrones’ filter,” the “ME!” singer continues, “’Look What You Made Me Do’ is literally Arya Stark’s kill list. ‘King of My Heart’ was influenced by Khal Drogo and Daenerys. It’s even got this post-hook of drums — I wanted them to sound like Dothraki drums.”

If the album seemed darker than her previous projects, the “Game of Thrones” influence probably had a lot to do with it. It doesn’t just stop there. “‘I Did Something Bad’ I wrote after Arya and Sansa conspire to kill Littlefinger,” Swift admits.

While Swift has spent some time with both Sophie Turner and Emilia Clarke, she’s kept her fandom to herself. She did, however, reveal her secrets to showrunners at a party, who were both flattered.

More than her love for the insane plotlines, Swift loves how relatable the characters are despite coming from a world we’re unfamiliar with in 2019. “You go from hating someone to loving someone. You see someone as cold, and then you see the reasons behind why they do what they do,” she says.
