Night King Opens Up on Filming 'Game of Thrones' Epic Twist in Last Battle

“Game of Thrones” fans are still reeling over the Night King’s epic death scene in Sunday night’s episode, but no one was reeling more than Night King actor Vladimír Furdík when he learned of his demise upon reading the script.

Furdík, who also serves as a stunt coordinator and battle choreographer for the show, had one immediate question when he found out about the Night King’s death at the hand of Arya Stark  – “How will she kill him?” In an interview with BuzzFeed News, he goes on to say, “I don’t think about why she kills him. At first, I think, like, how will we do this scene?”

While Furdík knew it was his character’s time, filming the iconic kill scene was no easy task.

The logistics of the scene were complicated, and ended up taking hours to film correctly. It begins with Arya coming at the Night King from behind, but being seized by the throat. In a swift move that goes unnoticed by the villainous character, Arya switches her knife from one hand to the other and delivers a life-ending stab to the Night King’s gut.

“It was so difficult, so crazy. Every night we were so tired, and Maisie [Williams> especially spent a lot of energy to play this part,” the Night King actor reveals.

Even though episode 3 marked the end of Furdík's character on the show, his role with the series didn’t end when filming of the Battle of Winterfell wrapped. The actor continued working to help choreograph yet-to-be-seen battles that appear in the coming episodes.

“When a battle happens, I am there,” Furdík explains.

While Furdík is happy with the way things played out, he still ruminates on alternate fates of his own. What if Bran had killed the Night King? What if the Night King ended up seated on the Iron Throne at the show’s end?

Unfortunately for the actor, these theories will have to remain mere thought exercises.
