Ed Sheeran, Frank Sinatra Top the List of Most Popular Songs to Play at a Funeral

Apparently, Frank Sinatra and Ed Sheeran have hits that we can't help but play over and over again...at funerals.

Picking the playlist when you’re planning a funeral can be tricky. If the songs are too upbeat, it seems inappropriate. If every song is a bummer, it'll make a heartbreaking situation even more unbearable. And then, of course, there’s the struggle of trying to include songs the deceased would have appreciated.

Our deceased loved ones, more often than not, would prefer their funerals be a celebration of life, and picking appropriate songs is the tricky key

According to a poll by Co-op Funeralcare, Sheeran and Sinatra are even more popular on funeral playlists than traditional hymns. In fact, traditional hymns don’t show up on the top ten list at all.

Between Sheeran’s “Supermarket Flowers” and Sinatra’s “My Way,” there are some clear easy options when it comes to loved ones choosing a fitting soundtrack. The songs have touching lyrics sung by soothing voices. The two singers sit on the top ten list among Bette Midler’s “Wind Beneath My Wings,” Nat King Cole’s “Unforgettable,” and Robbie Williams’s “Angels.”

However, in asking people what songs they would want played at their own funeral if it were up to them, the choices differed greatly. 1 in 20 people surveyed confirmed they’d want the “Game of Thrones” theme song to be played, while another 1 in 10 said they’d like to have Queen’s “Another One Bites the Dust” on blast.
